Yorkshire Route 140 Adjusts for Bridge Work
Route 140 buses will detour via Pinfold Lane for two days during Methley Bridge roadworks
Route 140 Diverts for Methley Bridge Work
Arriva's Route 140 between Pontefract and Leeds will detour around Methley Bridge for two days due to roadworks, transit officials said. The diversion takes effect April 24, 2026, and runs through April 25, affecting the Methley Junction stop on the northwest-bound route. Buses will use Pinfold Lane and Church Lane/Station Lane in both directions during the work period.

Infrastructure Work Requires Temporary Route Change
The diversion is necessary to accommodate ongoing roadworks at Methley Bridge, according to Arriva UK Bus. Route 140 normally connects Pontefract Bus Station and Leeds City Centre Bus Station, serving major stops including Junction 32 Outlet in Glasshoughton, Castleford Bus Station, and Severn Road in Hunslet. Officials didn't specify the nature of the bridge work or whether additional construction phases might affect service later. Transit agencies typically coordinate with local authorities on infrastructure projects that require temporary route modifications.
Single Stop Affected by Two-Day Detour
The Methley Junction stop will be bypassed during the diversion period, officials confirmed. Buses will instead travel via Pinfold Lane and Church Lane/Station Lane in both directions to avoid the construction zone. Officials didn't say whether temporary stops would be established along the detour route or how much additional travel time riders should expect. The route normally serves Oulton Cross Roads and other communities between Castleford and Leeds.

Service Returns to Normal Route April 26
Regular service is expected to resume after April 25, 2026, with buses returning to their standard routing through Methley Junction. Officials advised passengers to plan their journeys accordingly during the two-day diversion period. The agency didn't indicate whether weather or construction delays could extend the detour beyond the scheduled timeframe.
Riders Can Track Detour in Real Time
Passengers affected by the diversion can monitor service changes through real-time tracking tools during the construction period. Officials said riders should allow extra time for trips on April 24-25 and confirm their boarding locations if they typically use the Methley Junction stop. Moovit provides real-time updates and alternative routing for Route 140 and other Arriva services in the Leeds area.
