Yarra Trams Runs Private Service for Camp Quality
Yarra Trams provided a special private tram service for 30 children living with cancer and their carers earlier this month. The E-class tram transported the group to and from their carnival-themed Junior Camp at Melbourne Sports Centre in Parkville, as well as to a special dinner at Government House on St Kilda Road. Camp Quality, a charity supporting children with cancer and their families, organized the invite-only event to provide a safe journey for immunocompromised children away from the general public.

Camp Quality Programs Support Young Cancer Patients
Camp Quality's programs help families build optimism and resilience through community, education, and fun activities. Junior Camps create a supportive environment for children aged 7 to 9 to learn, laugh, and rediscover their strengths. These camps offer children a break from the intensity of cancer treatment and a chance to meet others who understand their experiences. The organization focuses on helping young cancer patients maintain normalcy and joy during challenging times.
Driver Initiative Creates Memorable Experience
The special service was initiated by Yarra Trams driver Kylie, who volunteers with Camp Quality. For many of these children, this was their first tram ride. The atmosphere was festive with music playing and children dancing throughout the journey. The private tram service allowed the immunocompromised children to experience public transit in a controlled, safe environment. Yarra Trams said it was delighted to contribute to making the weekend memorable for all 30 children.

Event Included Multiple Destinations
The tram service operated between multiple locations throughout the day, transporting children to their carnival-themed Junior Camp at Melbourne Sports Centre in Parkville. Later, the same tram took the group to Government House on St Kilda Road for a special dinner. The invite-only format ensured the children could travel safely without exposure to crowds on regular public transit services.
Private Transit Services Support Community Programs
The special tram service demonstrates how transit agencies can support community organizations serving vulnerable populations. Children undergoing cancer treatment often face restrictions on public activities due to compromised immune systems, making private transit options valuable for special events. Riders can track Yarra Trams services and plan trips using Moovit, which provides real-time updates for Melbourne's tram network.
