The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the westbound stop will close Monday, April 13, 2026, through Friday, May 15, 2026, from 8:30am to 3:30pm daily due to utility work. The closure also affects the D20 route at the same location.

Utility Work Prompts Daytime Closure

The temporary closure affects stop ID 1000988 on Minnesota Ave NE at Benning Rd, where utility crews will work during daytime hours for five weeks. WMATA typically closes bus stops when infrastructure work makes it unsafe or impractical for buses to pull over and board passengers. The agency said the closure will remain in effect only during work hours, with normal service resuming after 3:30pm each day. Officials didn't specify what type of utility work is planned for the area.

Two Routes Shift to Station Bus Bays

C33 passengers should board at Minnesota Ave Station Bus Bay B, stop ID 1002995, during the closure period. D20 riders will use Bus Bay K at the same station, stop ID 1003215. Both alternative stops are located at the Minnesota Ave Metro station, which serves the Orange and Silver lines. The station's bus bays provide covered waiting areas and real-time arrival information. Officials didn't say how far riders will need to walk from the closed stop to reach the station bus bays.

Closure Runs Through Mid-May

The stop closure begins April 13 and continues through May 15, affecting weekday and weekend service during daytime hours. Normal boarding at Minnesota Ave NE at Benning Rd will resume after May 15, once utility work is complete.
