WMATA Reroutes P41, P61 Buses for Bruno Mars Shows

Two WMATA bus routes serving Northwest Stadium will detour around road closures during Bruno Mars concerts May 2-3, transit officials said. Routes P41 and P61 will operate on alternate paths for up to 20 hours each day as Sean Taylor Road closes between Sheriff Road and Ring Road. The detours affect service from 4am to 11:59pm both days.

Concert Traffic Prompts Extended Route Changes

The detours accommodate expected heavy traffic and parking for the Bruno Mars tour at Northwest Stadium, according to the transit agency. WMATA typically implements temporary route modifications for major stadium events to maintain schedule reliability when roads near the venue close to regular traffic. The P61 route will detour in both directions throughout the entire 20-hour period, while the P41 will only detour eastbound during peak concert hours from 5pm to 9pm. Westbound P41 service will operate on its regular route.

Specific Detour Paths Vary by Route Direction

Northbound P61 buses will detour onto Barlowe Road at Landover Road, resuming the regular route on Glenarden Parkway at Brightseat Road. Southbound P61 service will detour on Brightseat Road at Landover Road, returning to the standard path on Morgan Boulevard at Fieldstone Way. The eastbound P41 will follow Barlowe Road at Landover Road before resuming on Ruby Lockhart Boulevard at Cross Church Way. Officials said all detours will add travel time but didn't specify expected delays.

Detours Active Both Concert Days

The modified routes take effect at 4am Friday, May 2, and continue through 11:59pm that evening, then repeat the same schedule Saturday, May 3. Transit officials said the early start time ensures buses operate on detour paths before concert-related traffic builds. The agency didn't say whether similar detours will be needed if additional concert dates are added to the tour schedule.

Riders Should Plan for Longer Trips

Passengers using routes P41 and P61 should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes if possible during the detour period, WMATA said. The agency advised riders to check for real-time service updates, though officials didn't specify how much additional time to budget for trips.
