WMATA Reroutes 3 Bus Lines for Q St Work
Three WMATA bus routes will detour around construction on Q Street NW between 27th Street and 28th Street starting March 6. The C91, D94, and D96 routes will follow alternate paths through Georgetown and Dupont Circle for nearly two months, transit officials said. Eastbound stops on Q Street between Wisconsin Avenue NW and Dupont Circle will close during the work, with temporary stops established along detour routes.

Construction Affects Georgetown Corridor
The construction work on Q Street NW will require closure of a two-block section between 27th and 28th streets through May 1, according to WMATA. The affected corridor serves residential neighborhoods in Georgetown and connects to major transit hubs at Dupont Circle. Officials said the detours are necessary to maintain safe bus operations while construction crews work on the street. The agency established temporary bus stops to minimize walking distances for passengers who regularly use the closed stops.
Routes Follow Different Detour Patterns
The C91 LeDroit Park-Georgetown route will detour eastbound on Wisconsin Avenue NW at Q Street, resuming regular service on P Street NW at 22nd Street. The D94 Gallery Place-Sibley Hospital route will follow the same eastbound detour pattern, officials said. The D96 Massachusetts Ave-Bethesda route will detour southbound on Wisconsin Avenue NW at Q Street, resuming on Massachusetts Avenue NW at 20th Street. Westbound and northbound services on all three routes will continue without changes, WMATA confirmed.

Detour Runs Through Spring
The detours take effect Friday, March 6, and will remain in place through Friday, May 1, transit officials said. WMATA didn't specify whether the construction timeline could extend beyond the announced end date. The agency typically provides advance notice if project schedules change, though officials haven't said whether they'll issue updates if the Q Street work finishes early or requires additional time.
Riders Should Plan Extra Travel Time
Passengers who use the affected Q Street stops should expect longer walks to temporary stop locations and potentially longer travel times due to detour routes, officials said. WMATA encouraged riders to sign up for MetroAlerts for real-time service updates during the construction period. Moovit provides real-time bus tracking and detour information for all WMATA routes, helping riders navigate temporary service changes and find the nearest available stops.
