WMATA Relocates Stops for ADA Access Upgrades
WMATA relocates three bus stops on Indian Head Highway to install ADA-compliant pads
WMATA Moves 3 Bus Stops on Indian Head Highway
Riders using five bus routes along Indian Head Highway will find three stops in new locations starting September 10, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced. The changes affect routes C11, P93, P94, P95, and P97, with stops relocated between 41 and 285 feet from their previous positions. WMATA completed the moves to accommodate new ADA accessibility pads at each location.

ADA Compliance Drives Stop Improvements
The relocations are part of WMATA's ongoing efforts to improve accessibility for all riders through Americans with Disabilities Act compliance upgrades. Transit agencies across the country have been systematically upgrading bus stops to meet federal accessibility standards, which require level boarding pads, proper clearances, and accessible pathways. WMATA operates bus, rail, and MetroAccess services throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The agency didn't specify the total cost of the accessibility improvements or how many additional stops will receive similar upgrades.
Three Stops Shift Along Corridor
The northbound stop on Livingston Road, identified as Stop ID #3000423, moved 285 feet south of its original location—the most significant relocation of the three. A second northbound stop on Audrey Lane, Stop ID #3004184, shifted 41 feet south. The southbound stop on Livingston Road, Stop ID #3000411, relocated 41 feet north. Officials said the new positions allow for proper installation of ADA-compliant boarding pads while maintaining service coverage along the corridor.

Changes Remain Through September 2026
The relocated stops will remain in their new positions through September 30, 2026, WMATA confirmed. Officials didn't explain whether the changes are permanent or temporary, though the 13-month timeframe suggests the relocations may be tied to a broader construction or improvement project. The agency encouraged customers to sign up for MetroAlerts to receive travel updates about the affected routes.
Riders Should Check Stop Locations
Passengers who regularly use the affected routes should verify their stop locations before traveling, particularly during the first few weeks after the September 10 change. The relocations range from about 40 feet to nearly 300 feet, which could affect where riders wait and how they time their arrivals. Moovit provides real-time bus locations and updated stop information for all WMATA routes, helping riders adjust to the new stop positions along Indian Head Highway.
