Safety Concerns Drive Stop Relocation

The permanent relocation affects only the eastbound direction of Route P40, which serves the New Carrollton corridor. Transit officials said the current stop configuration at Annapolis Road and Gallatin Street presented safety issues that warranted moving the boarding location. The current stop, identified as #3001585, will be decommissioned when the new stop opens. WMATA typically relocates bus stops when infrastructure changes, traffic patterns, or safety assessments indicate a better location is available nearby.

New Stop Location Details

The relocated stop will be positioned directly in front of the Taco Bell restaurant on Annapolis Road, officials said. The stop relocation takes effect Friday, October 10, 2025, according to WMATA. The agency issued an advisory effective through October 9, 2026, giving riders a full year to adjust to the new stop location. Officials didn't say whether temporary signage will direct passengers from the old stop to the new one during the transition period.

P40 riders boarding eastbound toward New Carrollton should plan to use the new stop in front of Taco Bell starting October 10.
