WMATA Relocates D90 Stops to Improve Safety
WMATA relocates two D90 bus stops on Massachusetts Ave NW starting April 30 for safety
WMATA Moves Two D90 Stops on Massachusetts Ave NW
Two D90 bus stops on Massachusetts Avenue NW will permanently relocate April 30 due to safety concerns, WMATA announced. The eastbound stop #2450 will shift six feet west, moving from behind a tree to in front of it, while the westbound stop at 15th Street will move 209 feet west to the Tunisia Embassy area. The changes affect riders traveling through downtown Washington on one of the system's key crosstown routes.

Safety Concerns Drive Permanent Changes
WMATA cited safety concerns as the reason for the permanent relocations, though officials didn't specify what hazards prompted the moves. Transit agencies typically relocate stops to improve visibility, address pedestrian safety issues, or accommodate infrastructure changes. The eastbound stop's shift from behind to in front of a tree suggests visibility may have been a factor. The westbound stop's 209-foot relocation represents a more substantial change that'll require riders to adjust their boarding locations significantly.
Eastbound Stop Shifts Six Feet, Westbound Moves 209 Feet
The eastbound stop #2450, identified as Stop ID #1001613, will move just six feet west from its current position. The minor adjustment places the stop in front of rather than behind a tree along Massachusetts Avenue. The westbound stop at 15th Street, Stop ID #1005005, will relocate 209 feet west to the area in front of the Tunisia Embassy. Both stops will serve the D90 route, which connects Dupont Circle with Union Station and continues to Stadium-Armory.

Changes Take Effect April 30
The stop relocations take effect Thursday, April 30, 2026, and will remain permanent. WMATA's advisory period runs through June 30, 2026, giving riders two months to familiarize themselves with the new locations. Officials didn't say whether temporary signage will direct passengers to the relocated stops during the transition period.
Riders Should Plan for New Stop Locations
Passengers who regularly use these stops should plan accordingly and locate the new boarding areas before April 30. The westbound stop's 209-foot move means riders will need to walk about two-thirds of a city block farther west to catch their bus. WMATA encouraged riders to sign up for MetroAlerts for service updates. Moovit provides real-time D90 bus locations and can help riders navigate to the relocated stops on Massachusetts Avenue NW.
