WMATA Relocates C41 Stop for Construction Work
WMATA relocates C41, C51 bus stop on Potomac Ave SE for 9 weeks due to construction
WMATA Moves C41 Bus Stop on Potomac Ave for 9 Weeks
Riders who catch the C41 or C51 bus at Potomac Avenue, SE at 14th Street will need to walk to a new temporary stop starting April 20, transit officials said. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the northbound stop relocation will last through June 22 due to construction work in the area. The change affects stop #1000565, with buses instead picking up passengers near Chamberlain Elementary School on Potomac Avenue.

Construction Forces Two-Month Stop Change
The temporary relocation is necessary to accommodate construction activity along the Potomac Avenue corridor, according to the transit agency. WMATA typically relocates bus stops when roadwork, utility projects, or building construction blocks access to regular boarding areas. The agency said the temporary stop will be clearly marked with signage to help customers find the new location. Transit officials didn't specify what type of construction is taking place or which entity is performing the work.
Two Routes Affected by Stop Relocation
Both the C41 and C51 routes will use the temporary stop adjacent to Chamberlain Elementary School during the nine-week period. The relocated stop serves northbound buses only, while southbound service wasn't mentioned in the agency's announcement. WMATA operates the C41 route connecting neighborhoods in Southeast Washington, though officials didn't provide ridership figures for the affected stop. The temporary location sits on the same street as the original stop, requiring riders to walk a short distance from their usual boarding point.
Changes Take Effect April 20 Through June 22
The stop relocation begins Monday, April 20, 2026, and continues through Monday, June 22, 2026, transit officials confirmed. WMATA said the temporary stop will be operational throughout this period, with regular service resuming at the original location after construction concludes. The agency encourages passengers to allow extra time for their trips while adjusting to the new boarding location.
Riders Can Track Service Changes in Real Time
Passengers should watch for temporary stop signage and plan their boarding location accordingly during the construction period. WMATA customer support is available Monday through Friday from 7 am to 8 pm and weekends from 8 am to 8 pm. Riders can also use Moovit to track real-time bus locations and receive updates about service changes affecting the C41 and C51 routes during the temporary relocation.
