WMATA Moves C41 Bus Stop on Potomac Ave for Work

Riders who catch the C41 or C51 bus at Potomac Avenue, SE at 14th Street will need to walk to a new temporary stop starting April 20. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the northbound stop relocation Monday, saying construction work requires moving stop #1000565 for about two months. The temporary stop will be on Potomac Avenue next to Chamberlain Elementary School.

Construction Drives Two-Month Change

The stop relocation runs from Monday, April 20, 2026, through Monday, June 22, 2026, transit officials said. WMATA didn't specify what type of construction necessitates the change or whether it's a city infrastructure project or transit system work. The agency said the temporary location will maintain service access throughout the construction period. Transit agencies typically relocate stops when roadwork, utility repairs, or building projects block regular boarding areas.

Two Routes Share Relocated Stop

Both the C41 and C51 routes use the affected northbound stop at Potomac Avenue and 14th Street. The temporary stop adjacent to Chamberlain Elementary School will serve riders on both routes during the relocation period. Officials didn't say how far riders will need to walk from the original stop location to the temporary one or whether additional signage will direct passengers to the new boarding area. The agency said customers can sign up for MetroAlerts to receive updates about the stop change.

Service Continues Through June

The temporary stop arrangement will remain in place until Monday, June 22, when service is scheduled to return to the original location. WMATA didn't say whether that return date could change if construction runs longer than expected. The agency's customer support line operates Monday through Friday from 7 am to 8 pm and weekends from 8 am to 8 pm at 202.GO.METRO.

Riders Should Plan for Stop Change

Passengers who regularly use the Potomac Avenue stop should allow extra time to locate the temporary boarding area when the change takes effect April 20. Officials said the relocated stop will provide continued access during construction but didn't specify whether bus schedules will be affected by the different stop location. Riders can check real-time bus arrival information and receive service alerts through Moovit, which provides updates for WMATA routes throughout the Washington metro area.
