WMATA Relocates Bus Stop to Improve Safety
WMATA relocates westbound bus stop on East-West Highway one block west due to safety concerns
WMATA Moves Bus Stop One Block West on East-West Highway
Two WMATA bus routes will serve a new stop location starting January 26, transit officials said. The westbound stop on East-West Highway at 43rd Street will permanently move one block west to 43rd Avenue, affecting routes M44 and P10. Officials said the relocation addresses safety concerns at the current location.

Safety Concerns Drive Permanent Change
The relocation is being implemented due to safety reasons, according to WMATA. Transit agencies typically relocate stops when traffic patterns, visibility issues, or pedestrian safety concerns make the current location problematic. The move affects the westbound stop toward North Bethesda and College Park, identified as stop ID 3001877. Officials didn't specify what particular safety issues prompted the change, but permanent relocations usually follow engineering assessments of stop conditions.
Routes M44 and P10 Affected by Move
The change impacts two bus routes that currently serve the 43rd Street location. Route M44 and P10 riders heading westbound will need to walk one additional block to reach the new stop at 43rd Avenue. WMATA said the new location will replace the current stop permanently. Officials haven't said whether the stop will feature new shelters or amenities, or if existing infrastructure will be relocated to the new site.

Change Takes Effect January 26
The stop relocation becomes effective January 26, 2026, according to WMATA. The advisory period runs through April 26, 2026, giving riders three months to adjust to the new location. Officials encourage passengers to sign up for MetroAlerts for service updates. Riders can contact WMATA at 202-GO-METRO Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with questions.
Riders Should Plan for New Stop Location
Westbound riders on routes M44 and P10 should allow extra time to reach the new stop location one block west of the current site. The permanent change means riders will need to adjust their walking routes to East-West Highway at 43rd Avenue. Moovit provides real-time bus locations and stop information for WMATA routes throughout the Washington metropolitan area, helping riders navigate service changes and plan trips with current route details.
