WMATA F20 Bus Detours April 18-27 for Work

WMATA's F20 bus route will detour around construction on Falls Church Drive for 10 days starting April 18, transit officials said. The street closure in West Falls Church affects only westbound buses heading to Tysons, while eastbound service to King St-Old Town won't change. The agency announced the detour April 10.

Construction Closes Street in West Falls Church

The Falls Church Drive closure is part of ongoing construction work in the West Falls Church area, according to WMATA. The agency said the work requires a complete street closure that makes the normal F20 route impassable for westbound buses. Transit officials said the detour will remain in effect through Monday, April 27. The construction project's scope and contractor weren't specified in the agency's advisory.

Westbound Buses Reroute at Station

Westbound F20 buses traveling on Leesburg Pike toward Tysons will begin detouring at West Falls Church Station & Bus Bay E, WMATA said. The buses will then skip the Falls Church Drive segment and resume their regular route on Leesburg Pike at Haycock Road. Eastbound F20 service from Leesburg Pike to King St-Old Town operates normally without any route changes. Officials said riders should allow extra travel time during the detour period.

Detour Runs Through End of April

The temporary detour takes effect Saturday, April 18, 2026, and continues through Monday, April 27, 2026, according to the transit agency. WMATA updated its service advisory on April 10 with the detour details. Officials didn't say whether the construction might extend beyond the planned completion date or if additional detours could be needed.

Riders Can Track Changes Through Alerts

Westbound F20 riders should plan for slightly longer trips while buses navigate the detour route, transit officials said. WMATA encouraged passengers to sign up for MetroAlerts for real-time service updates during the construction period. Moovit provides real-time F20 bus tracking and alternative route suggestions for riders affected by the temporary detour.
