WMATA closes westbound Riverdale Rd stop nightly 11pm-5am May 4-8 for construction
WMATA Closes Riverdale Rd Stop Nightly May 4-8
Riders using three WMATA bus routes will need to walk one block to an alternate stop during overnight hours this week. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced a temporary closure of the westbound bus stop at Riverdale Road and 67th Court, affecting routes P30, P31, and P42 from Monday, May 4, through Friday, May 8, 2026. The stop will be closed nightly from 11pm until 5am due to construction work in the area.

Construction Work Requires Overnight Access
The temporary closure is necessary to accommodate construction work along Riverdale Road, transit officials said. WMATA typically schedules such closures during overnight hours to minimize disruption to daytime commuters who make up the majority of ridership on the affected routes. The agency didn't specify what type of construction work is being performed or whether it's related to roadway improvements or utility work. Transit agencies often coordinate with local municipalities on infrastructure projects that require temporary modifications to bus stop access.
Alternate Stop One Block Away
Passengers who normally use stop #3001788 at Riverdale Road and 67th Court will need to walk to an alternate location at Riverdale Road and 67th Place, designated as stop #3001811. The alternate stop is approximately one block from the closed location and serves the same three routes during the closure period. WMATA officials said the temporary stop will accommodate all scheduled service for routes P30, P31, and P42 during the 11pm to 5am closure window. The agency didn't provide details about whether additional signage or wayfinding assistance will be posted at the closed stop to direct riders to the alternate location.

Five-Night Closure Runs Through Friday
The closure takes effect Monday, May 4, 2026, and continues through Friday, May 8, with nightly closures from 11pm to 5am each night. Normal service will resume at the Riverdale Road and 67th Court stop during daytime and evening hours, with the closure only affecting the six-hour overnight window. The stop will return to regular operations after 5am on Saturday, May 9, officials said.
Riders Should Plan for Extra Walking Time
Overnight riders on the three affected routes should allow extra time to walk to the alternate stop location during the closure period. WMATA apologized for any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause and encouraged customers to plan their trips accordingly. The agency said riders can stay informed about service changes through real-time transit apps.
