WMATA D40 Bus Detours for Arena Concert April 5

WMATA's D40 bus route will detour around Capital One Arena on Sunday, April 5, 2026, from 10:00pm until 11:59pm due to a concert featuring Romeo Santos and Prince Royce. The temporary route changes affect both northbound and southbound buses traveling along 7th Street, NW, as the transit agency manages heavy vehicular and foot traffic expected from the special event. Only the D40 7th St-Georgia Ave route will be impacted, with no other bus routes or rail services affected.

Detour Routes for Northbound and Southbound Service

Northbound D40 buses traveling towards Silver Spring will detour on 7th St, NW at E St, resuming their regular route on 7th St, NW at L St. Southbound D40 buses traveling towards Archives will detour on 7th St, NW at K St, resuming their regular route on 7th St, NW at Constitution Ave. The detours will keep buses moving on 7th Street while bypassing the immediate area around the arena where the heaviest pedestrian and vehicle congestion is expected. WMATA recommends avoiding the area if possible during the concert hours.

Two-Hour Window for Route Changes

The detour will be in effect from 10:00pm until 11:59pm on April 5, coinciding with the concert's conclusion and the expected surge of attendees leaving Capital One Arena. The two-hour window allows WMATA to manage the peak period when thousands of concertgoers will be departing the venue and seeking transportation. Buses will return to their regular routes once the detour period ends at midnight.

Riders Advised to Plan Extra Travel Time

Passengers are advised to allow additional travel time during the detour period. Riders can sign up for MetroAlerts for real-time service information, WMATA said. Moovit provides real-time updates for WMATA routes, helping riders navigate temporary detours and plan trips around service changes. The transit agency expects normal service to resume on the D40 route after 11:59pm on April 5.
