WMATA Adjusts D10 Route for Station Work
WMATA closes D10 bus stop at Pennsylvania Ave SE and 14th Street for two years starting March 2026
WMATA Closes D10 Bus Stop on Pennsylvania Ave SE
Riders who use the D10 and D1X bus routes on Pennsylvania Avenue SE will need to find a new stop starting March 9, 2026. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced it's permanently closing the westbound bus stop at Pennsylvania Avenue SE and 14th Street due to the Potomac Avenue Station project. The closure affects two routes and will remain in effect through March 9, 2028.

Station Project Drives Permanent Change
The closure is tied to ongoing work at the Potomac Avenue Station, officials said. WMATA didn't provide details about the specific construction activities requiring the stop's removal or whether other stops in the area will be affected by the project. Transit agencies typically close stops permanently when infrastructure projects make locations unsafe or operationally impractical for bus service. The Potomac Avenue Station project's scope and timeline beyond this closure weren't detailed in the announcement.
Alternative Stop Located One Block Away
Passengers who previously used the 14th Street stop will need to board at Pennsylvania Avenue SE at Potomac Avenue, designated as stop ID #1002965. The alternative stop is located approximately one block east of the closed location. Both the D10 and D1X routes will serve the Potomac Avenue stop, officials confirmed. WMATA apologized for any inconvenience caused by the change but didn't specify whether additional service adjustments or schedule modifications will accompany the closure.

Two-Year Closure Takes Effect in 2026
The stop closure becomes effective March 9, 2026, and will remain in place through March 9, 2028, according to WMATA. Officials didn't say whether the stop might reopen after that date or if the closure could become indefinite. The transit authority announced the change in April 2025, giving riders nearly a year's advance notice. WMATA encouraged customers to sign up for MetroAlerts to receive updates about service changes.
Riders Should Plan for New Boarding Location
Passengers should allow extra time to reach the alternative stop location and familiarize themselves with the new boarding area before the March 2026 closure takes effect. Officials said alternative boarding and exiting options are available at the nearby Potomac Avenue stop.
