The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the westbound bus stop at that location will close Monday, April 13, 2026, through Friday, May 15, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM daily. The closure affects stop #1000988 while utility work is conducted in the area.
Utility Work Requires Extended Closure
The five-week closure is necessary to accommodate utility infrastructure work along Minnesota Avenue NE, transit officials said. WMATA typically coordinates with utility companies and local agencies when street work requires temporary changes to bus operations. The daytime-only closure allows the stop to remain open during morning and evening peak hours before 8:30 AM and after 3:30 PM. Passengers on both affected routes can use nearby stops at Minnesota Avenue Metro Station during the closure. C33 riders should board at Bus Bay B, stop #1002995, while D20 passengers can use Bus Bay K, stop #1003215. Both alternative stops are located at the Metro station, which serves the Orange and Silver lines. The station's bus bays provide covered waiting areas and real-time arrival information displays. Officials said the alternative stops will add minimal walking distance for most riders compared to the closed location.
Closure Runs Through Mid-May
The temporary closure begins April 13 and continues through May 15, affecting weekday and weekend service during the specified hours. WMATA said the stop will return to normal operations after utility work is completed. The agency didn't say whether the closure could be extended if work takes longer than expected.
