WMATA Adjusts Bus Service for Arlington Construction
WMATA closes North Fairfax Drive bus stop April 20-May 18 for construction work
WMATA Closes Bus Stop on North Fairfax Drive
Riders who use the bus stop at North Fairfax Drive and North Utah Street in Arlington will need to board at a different location for nearly a month starting April 20. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the stop at stop ID #6000530 will be closed through May 18 due to construction. Four routes—A58, A70, A76, and F50—will be affected by the closure.

Construction Drives Temporary Change
The closure is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements in the Arlington area, according to WMATA. Transit agencies typically close bus stops temporarily when construction work makes them inaccessible or unsafe for passenger boarding. The month-long closure period suggests substantial work is planned for the North Fairfax Drive corridor. Officials didn't specify what type of construction is taking place or which entity is managing the project.
Alternative Stop Designated for All Routes
Passengers should use Ballston Station Bus Bay K, stop ID #6000531, as the temporary boarding location during the closure period. The alternative stop will serve all four affected routes throughout the construction work. WMATA advised riders to plan their trips accordingly and allow extra time for travel to account for the different boarding location. The distance between the closed stop and the temporary alternative wasn't specified in the agency's announcement.
Closure Begins April 20
The bus stop closure takes effect Monday, April 20, 2026, and will continue through Monday, May 18, 2026. That gives the closure a duration of exactly four weeks. WMATA typically provides advance notice of temporary stop closures to give regular riders time to adjust their routines and identify alternative boarding locations.

Riders Can Track Service Changes
The temporary closure will affect daily commuters and other regular users of the four bus routes that serve the North Fairfax Drive stop. WMATA encourages passengers to stay informed about this and other service changes through its notification systems. Riders can use Moovit to access real-time bus arrival information and plan trips using the temporary stop location during the closure period.
