The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the westbound stop closure will run through May 15 for utility work, affecting service daily from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The closure affects stop #1000988, which serves two routes in the area.
Alternative Stops Available at Station
The closure is part of utility infrastructure work being conducted along the Minnesota Avenue corridor, transit officials said. WMATA typically coordinates with utility companies when work requires temporary changes to bus stop access. The affected stop sits near the intersection of Minnesota Avenue NE and Benning Road, a busy transit corridor in Northeast Washington. The agency selected the daytime closure window to minimize disruption to peak commuting hours while allowing contractors to complete necessary work.
Two Routes Redirect to Station Bays
C33 passengers should board at Minnesota Ave Station Bus Bay B, designated as stop #1002995, according to WMATA. D20 riders will use Bus Bay K at the same station, stop #1003215. Both alternative stops are located at Minnesota Avenue Station, which serves as a major transfer point in the area. The station's multiple bus bays are designed to accommodate route changes during construction or maintenance work. Officials said the alternative stops provide shelter and real-time arrival information for waiting passengers.
Closure Runs Through Mid-May
The temporary closure begins Monday, April 13, 2026, and continues through Friday, May 15, 2026. Service restrictions will be in effect daily between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM, allowing normal operations during early morning and evening hours. The stop will return to full service after 3:30 PM each day and before 8:30 AM the following morning. WMATA didn't specify whether the closure might end earlier if utility work finishes ahead of schedule.
