West Midlands Coordinates Routes 60, 72 Detours
Sheaf Lane closes overnight March 30-31 for lamp work, diverting bus routes 60 and 72
Sheldon Sheaf Lane Closes for Work, Reroutes 60, 72
Riders using bus routes 60 and 72 in Sheldon will need to plan for detours as Sheaf Lane closes for overnight lamp column work. The street will be closed between Coventry Road and Horse Shoes Lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, transit officials said. Both bus services will follow alternate routes during the closure hours.

Infrastructure Work Requires Temporary Closure
The overnight closure allows crews to complete lamp column maintenance on the affected section of Sheaf Lane, according to the transit agency. Officials scheduled the work during late-night hours to minimize disruption to daytime traffic and transit service. The closure affects only the segment between Coventry Road and Horse Shoes Lane, while other portions of Sheaf Lane remain open. Transit agencies typically coordinate with local utilities and public works departments when street closures require bus route modifications.
Detailed Detour Routes for Both Services
Service 60 heading toward Cranes Park will divert via Barrows Lane, Common Lane, Church Road, and Cranes Park Road, officials said. Buses heading toward Birmingham on route 60 will follow the same streets in reverse. Service 72 toward Chelmsley Wood will divert from Hobs Moat Road via Coventry Road, Barrows Lane, Common Lane, Church Road, and Cranes Park Road. Route 72 buses heading to Solihull will travel via Church Road, Common Road, Barrows Lane, Coventry Road, and Hobs Moat Road.

Two-Night Closure Schedule
The work will take place over two consecutive nights, with identical closure hours each evening. Officials said the 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. timeframe allows crews to complete the lamp column work while avoiding peak travel periods. The closure ends before morning rush hour service begins on both days.
Planning for Overnight Detours
Riders traveling during the late evening and early morning hours on March 30 and 31 should expect longer travel times due to the detours, transit officials said. The alternate routes add several turns and additional streets to both services' normal paths through Sheldon. Passengers can check real-time bus locations and updated arrival times through Moovit during the closure hours to track their specific service.
