VTA Boosts Green Line for NVIDIA Conference Crowds
VTA adds two-car Green Line trains and three shuttle runs for NVIDIA conference crowds
VTA Adds Green Line Trains for NVIDIA Conference
San Jose transit riders should expect heavier crowds Monday, March 16, as thousands of attendees arrive for NVIDIA's GPU Technology Conference at the San Jose Convention Center, VTA officials said. The agency's deploying extra Green Line service throughout the day to handle the surge, with all regular trains operating with two cars instead of one. The main keynote by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang takes place at SAP Center from 11 a.m. to noon, creating peak demand on downtown stations.

Extra Service Targets Morning and Midday Rush
The service enhancements are designed to accommodate one of the busiest transit days in recent memory for downtown San Jose, according to VTA. Major tech conferences typically draw thousands of attendees who rely on public transportation to reach convention centers, creating concentrated demand during arrival and departure periods. VTA classified this as a high-severity service alert, indicating significant expected impact on normal operations. The agency announced the changes March 13, giving riders several days' notice to plan accordingly.
Three Shuttle Trains Run Between Key Stations
Three extra Green Line trains will run between Diridon Station and St. James Station from approximately 8 to 11 a.m. as attendees arrive, then again from noon to 2 p.m. following the keynote, VTA confirmed. Some trains may turn back at St. James Station rather than completing full routes, providing more frequent service in the busiest downtown segment. The extra service trains won't appear in the Transit App, officials said, so riders should rely on platform announcements. Crowded trains and platforms are expected at Diridon, Convention Center, and St. James stations throughout the day.

Service Changes Take Effect Monday Morning
The enhanced service begins Monday morning, March 16, and continues through early afternoon to cover both arrival and departure periods for conference attendees. VTA's implementing the two-car configuration for all regular Green Line trains throughout the day, while the three extra shuttle trains will operate during the specified morning and midday windows as needed. Officials said the timing's designed to align with the conference schedule, particularly the 11 a.m. keynote that's expected to draw the largest crowds.
Riders Urged to Allow Extra Travel Time
VTA's strongly advising all passengers traveling through downtown San Jose on March 16 to allow extra travel time and prepare for crowded conditions. Whether attending the NVIDIA conference or simply commuting through downtown that day, riders should expect delays and plan accordingly. For real-time updates on service conditions, passengers should check vta.org/alerts or follow VTA's social media channels, officials said. Moovit provides real-time transit updates and trip planning for VTA's light rail and bus network throughout the San Jose area.
