TfL Expands Superloop to Strengthen Outer London Links
New SL12 Superloop bus connects Gants Hill, Romford, and Rainham starting April 4
TfL Adds SL12 Route Linking Gants Hill to Rainham
Transport for London's adding a new express bus route connecting three major eastern London hubs starting April 4. The SL12 Superloop will link Gants Hill, Romford, and Rainham, providing faster orbital travel across outer boroughs without routing through central London. The route includes 16 stops serving residential areas, commercial districts, and Queen's Hospital Romford.

Strengthening Connections in Rail-Limited Areas
The new route's part of TfL's broader strategy to improve connections in areas with limited rail access, transit officials said. The Superloop network launched in 2023 and continues expanding to serve communities underserved by conventional rail lines. This initiative supports TfL's ongoing push to reduce car dependency and improve sustainable travel options across Greater London. The express service aims to cut travel times for residents, workers, and visitors navigating the city's outskirts.
Integration with Major Transport Hubs
The SL12 will connect with key transport hubs throughout eastern London, officials confirmed. At Gants Hill Station, riders can transfer to the Central Line. Romford provides access to both the Elizabeth Line and Overground services. Rainham Station offers National Rail connections. The route serves multiple London boroughs and provides access to shopping areas, healthcare facilities, and business districts across the region.
Service Launches April 4
The SL12 Superloop begins operation on April 4, 2026, Transport for London announced. Passengers can use London's "Hopper" fare system, which allows unlimited bus transfers within 60 minutes for a single fare. Officials said the express service will provide more convenient transfers for riders traveling between outer boroughs.
What Riders Need to Know
Eastern London residents will gain faster orbital travel options without needing to route through congested central areas. The 16-stop route connects residential districts with commercial centers and healthcare facilities. Riders can plan trips and get real-time service updates through Moovit, which provides schedule information and route planning for London's transit network including the new SL12 Superloop service.
