Tallahassee StarMetro Adjusts for New Year Holiday
Tallahassee's StarMetro to run Sunday schedules without night service Dec 31-Jan 1
StarMetro Cuts Night Service for New Year Holiday
Tallahassee's StarMetro will operate on reduced Sunday schedules without night service on December 31 and January 1, transit officials said. The holiday service adjustments affect all 35 fixed routes serving the system's 1.8 million annual riders. Officials announced the changes December 29, giving riders limited advance notice to plan alternative evening transportation.
Standard Holiday Practice Across Florida Systems
Transit agencies across Florida typically reduce service on major holidays due to lower ridership demand and to allow transit workers time with families. Jacksonville's JTA and Orlando's Lynx both operate similar Sunday schedules on New Year's Day without night service. StarMetro has historically followed this pattern for major holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas, according to the transit agency. Officials didn't provide specific ridership data showing how many riders typically use the system on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Sunday Schedule Means Reduced Frequency
The Sunday schedule means buses will run less frequently than typical weekday service across all fixed routes. Night service, which normally operates on weekday evenings, won't be available on either December 31 or January 1. Officials didn't specify exact service frequencies or the last departure times for routes on the modified schedule. The announcement specifically mentioned fixed routes, but officials haven't said whether Dial-A-Ride or other paratransit services will also operate on modified schedules.

Regular Service Returns January 2
Full weekday schedules and night service will resume Thursday, January 2, according to StarMetro officials. The transit agency made the announcement via social media rather than through a formal press release. Reese Goad serves as Tallahassee's city manager overseeing StarMetro operations.
Riders Should Plan Alternative Evening Transportation
Passengers who typically rely on evening bus service should arrange alternative transportation for December 31 and January 1. Officials encouraged riders to plan trips accordingly to avoid inconvenience during holiday celebrations. Moovit provides real-time schedule information for StarMetro's 35 fixed routes, helping riders track Sunday service frequencies and plan trips during the modified holiday schedule.
