Giants Games Bring Street Closures to SF

San Francisco Giants fans heading to three home games against the San Diego Padres this week should expect street closures and parking restrictions around the ballpark. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced the closures for games scheduled Monday, May 4 at 6:45 p.m., Tuesday, May 5 at 6:45 p.m., and Wednesday, May 6 at 12:45 p.m. Eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets will close two and a half hours before first pitch and again from the seventh inning until post-game traffic clears.

Street Closures Around Ballpark

The street closures are standard procedure for Giants games expected to draw more than 10,000 attendees, transit officials said. Special event parking rates of $12 per hour will be charged at meters near the ballpark during all three games. The closures help manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic during peak arrival and departure times. Transit officials recommend riders use public transportation to avoid parking fees and traffic congestion around the venue.

Highway and Avenue Work Continues

Multiple I-280 off-ramps will close overnight Friday, May 1 into Saturday, May 2, as part of ongoing maintenance work. Caltrans is conducting a major paving project on 19th Avenue between Lincoln Way and Holloway, with southbound lanes closing from Friday, May 8 until Monday, May 10. Both directions of 19th Avenue will close from Friday, May 22 until Monday, May 25. The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge will experience overnight lane closures for paint and joint rehabilitation work, though specific dates weren't provided in the advisory.

Muni Routes Face Detours

Muni bus routes 28, 28R, 48, 66, and 91 will be affected by the 19th Avenue construction work, transit officials said. The agency didn't specify exact detour routes or whether service frequency would change during the construction periods. Several ongoing construction projects will continue to impact traffic, including the 13th Street Safety Project, Transbay Howard Streetscape Project, and SFPUC Geary Boulevard sewer and water replacements. Officials said riders should expect delays in affected areas.

Planning Around Disruptions

Riders should plan extra travel time during the advisory period, particularly around game times and construction zones. The combination of baseball games, highway maintenance, and ongoing construction projects will create multiple traffic bottlenecks across the city. Moovit provides real-time updates for Muni routes and can help riders navigate detours and service changes throughout the week.
