SF Muni Brings Free Holiday Cheer to Riders
SFMTA offers free ice skating, hot cocoa, and holiday streetcar tours in December
SFMTA Hosts Free Holiday Skate Night Dec. 13
San Francisco transit riders can celebrate the season with free ice skating and hot cocoa next month. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will host Merry Muni Skate Night on December 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yerba Buena Ice Skating Center, transit officials announced Tuesday. The event includes free skate rentals, though riders must RSVP in advance.
Community Events Build on Transit Tradition
The skating event is part of SFMTA's seasonal community engagement efforts, according to the transit agency. SFMTA has historically hosted holiday-themed events during winter months to connect with riders beyond daily transit service. The agency didn't disclose the budget for this year's seasonal programming. Transit agencies across the country increasingly use community events to strengthen public connections, according to the American Public Transportation Association.

Three Free Events Scheduled Through December
SFMTA will host three seasonal events this month, officials said. Beyond the skating night, the agency will offer Holiday Lights Tours on historic streetcars December 14 and December 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The two-hour tours will showcase San Francisco's holiday displays from vintage streetcars. All events require advance registration, though officials haven't said how many spots are available or whether capacity limits apply.

Registration Required for All Events
The Merry Muni Skate Night takes place December 13, with the first Holiday Lights Tour following the next evening. Officials said riders should register in advance but didn't specify how far ahead registration opens or when spots might fill up. The agency typically announces event details several weeks before they occur.
Free Events Offer Holiday Activities for Riders
All three events are free for San Francisco residents and visitors, officials said. The skating night includes complimentary skate rentals, hot cocoa and cookies. Riders can find event registration information and real-time transit updates through Moovit to plan their trips to Yerba Buena Ice Skating Center or historic streetcar boarding locations.
