SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Line will operate with shuttle bus substitution between Wilmington Station and Claymont Transit Center on Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12, transit officials said. The service change affects riders traveling between the two stations due to Amtrak track work north of Wilmington Station. DART will provide shuttle bus service during the weekend disruption, with riders able to connect to regular SEPTA train service at Claymont Transit Center for continued travel to Center City.
Track Maintenance Requires Service Adjustment
The shuttle bus substitution is necessary to accommodate Amtrak's track maintenance work on the Wilmington/Newark Line corridor, according to SEPTA. Regional rail systems frequently coordinate with Amtrak for infrastructure work on shared track segments, particularly on lines that connect to the Northeast Corridor. The work affects a section north of Wilmington Station, requiring temporary service modifications for the weekend period. SEPTA said the changes will allow Amtrak to complete necessary track maintenance while maintaining connectivity for riders through alternative transportation.
Travel Times Increase Up to 25 Minutes
For inbound service toward Center City, shuttle buses will depart Wilmington Station 17 minutes earlier than regularly scheduled train times, and passengers should add approximately 20 minutes to their travel time. Outbound service toward Newark will see trains arrive at Claymont Transit Center 2 minutes later than scheduled, with passengers needing to add approximately 20 to 25 minutes to their journey. Train 2740 will operate 17 minutes later than its normal schedule from Claymont Transit Center to Chestnut Hill East Station to connect with the last northbound shuttle bus from Wilmington Station. Bus stops will be located at Claymont Transit Center Bus Circle on Transit Center Dr. and at Wilmington Station on MLK Jr Blvd & Market St.
Weekend Service Changes Take Effect April 11
The shuttle bus service will operate only on Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12, 2026, officials confirmed. SEPTA recommends that travelers refer to the Wilmington/Newark Line PDF schedule for specific train and bus times and consider alternative travel options to avoid potential delays. Customer service will be available on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 215-580-7800 to answer questions and provide assistance during the service modification period.
Riders Should Plan for Extended Commutes
Passengers traveling on the Wilmington/Newark Line during the April 11-12 weekend should plan for extended travel times and arrive at stations earlier than usual to accommodate the shuttle bus connections.
