SamTrans Turns Buses Into Rolling Cultural Celebrations
SamTrans debuts three wrapped buses honoring Lunar New Year, 50th anniversary, Black History Month
SamTrans Adds Three Wrapped Buses to Fleet
SamTrans riders will see three newly wrapped buses celebrating cultural milestones and the agency's history rolling through the San Francisco-San Jose area. The transit agency introduced buses honoring Lunar New Year 2026, SamTrans' 50th anniversary, and Black History Month, April Chan, general manager and CEO, announced Tuesday. The Black History Month bus marks the second time SamTrans has featured the design, officials said.

Operator Partners with Museum on Design
The Black History Month wrapped bus emerged from a collaboration between SamTrans operator Andre Mosteiro and the Domini Hoskins Black History Museum & Learning Center. Transit agencies increasingly use vehicle wraps to engage communities and celebrate cultural events, turning buses into mobile public art. Officials said the partnership demonstrates how public transportation can serve as a platform for cultural education. The success of the first Black History Month wrap led to this year's design, according to the transit agency.
Three Designs Honor Different Milestones
The three wrapped buses each serve distinct purposes in SamTrans' fleet. The Lunar New Year bus celebrates the holiday observed by many Bay Area residents, while the 50th anniversary wrap commemorates five decades of SamTrans service in San Mateo County. The Black History Month design specifically honors African American history and contributions, officials said. Specific details about how many buses received each wrap design or the total cost of the project weren't available by publication time.

Buses Roll Out Across Service Area
The wrapped buses entered service following the February 4 announcement, officials said, though specific routes where riders can see the designs weren't provided. SamTrans operates throughout San Mateo County, connecting communities between San Francisco and San Jose. The agency didn't specify how long the wraps will remain on the buses or whether additional wrapped buses are planned for other cultural observances this year.
Riders Can Track Wrapped Buses
The three specially designed buses will operate across SamTrans' service area in coming months, giving riders throughout the region opportunities to see the cultural celebrations. Officials said the wraps aim to bring visibility to important milestones and cultural observances while riders go about their daily commutes. Moovit provides real-time tracking for SamTrans routes, helping riders plan trips and see when buses are approaching their stops.
