The financial terms of the partnership weren't disclosed. SEPTA hasn't released projections for how many riders are expected to participate in the program.

Automatic Rebates for Qualifying Riders

Riders don't need to register or take any special action beyond tapping their eligible Mastercard at SEPTA fare readers. Once a rider's SEPTA fare purchases reach $10 within a calendar month, the $2.50 rebate is automatically applied to their card. The benefit resets each month, allowing regular commuters to save $30 annually if they qualify every month through the promotion's end date. Officials didn't specify which Mastercard products are eligible, though riders can verify their card's eligibility through SEPTA's announcement.

Promotion Runs Through Year's End

The Mastercard Public Transit Benefit launched in January 2025 and will continue through December 31, 2025. Similar rebate programs have been established with transit agencies in New York City and other U.S. cities as part of Mastercard's broader initiative to support contactless payment adoption.
