NYC PATH Adjusts Weekend Service, Seeks Better Flow
PATH trains ran every 20 minutes on main routes during January 3-4 weekend service
PATH Cuts Weekend Service to 20-Minute Waits
PATH riders traveling between New York and New Jersey this weekend will see longer waits between trains. The transit system operated on a modified schedule January 3-4 with trains running every 20 minutes on main routes, transit officials said. That's double the frequency of the temporary Hoboken-33rd Street service, which ran every 10 minutes. Officials didn't specify the reason for the weekend modifications.
The service changes affected PATH's two primary weekend routes during the period. The JSQ-33 route operated via Hoboken, while Newark to World Trade Center service ran in both directions, according to the Port Authority. PATH typically serves about 250,000 riders daily on weekdays, though weekend ridership figures weren't available. Information about typical weekend service frequencies wasn't immediately available for comparison.

Both main service patterns maintained 20-minute intervals between trains throughout the weekend, officials said. The JSQ-33 trains made stops at Exchange Place for passengers heading toward Journal Square. To offset the reduced frequency on main routes, PATH provided additional service between Hoboken and 33rd Street with 10-minute intervals. Clarelle DeGraffe, General Manager of PATH, oversees operations for the bi-state transit system.
The modified service period ran from January 3 through January 4, according to information published January 4 on PATH's official social media. Officials announced the changes via the transit system's Twitter account but didn't release a formal statement about the modifications. PATH hasn't publicly specified whether similar service adjustments are planned for upcoming weekends.

Riders who traveled during the modified service period faced longer waits than usual, though officials didn't provide estimates of how many passengers were affected. The Port Authority operates PATH as a rapid transit connection between Manhattan and New Jersey communities including Hoboken, Jersey City, Harrison, and Newark. Moovit provides real-time updates for PATH routes and alternative travel options during service modifications.
