NYC PATH Adjusts Service to Boost Connectivity
PATH JSQ-33 trains add Exchange Place stop through January 2026, extending travel times
PATH Alters JSQ-33 Service Through January 2026
PATH trains serving Journal Square and Manhattan's 33rd Street are making additional stops at Exchange Place through January 2026, transit officials said. The service modification affects JSQ-33 trains traveling toward Journal Square, adding time to trips for commuters who don't need the Exchange Place stop. Officials haven't specified the exact end date in January or explained why the change is necessary.
The routing change is part of broader service adjustments PATH implemented in late November affecting multiple lines. JSQ-33 trains now run via Hoboken with 20-minute frequencies, while Newark-World Trade Center service also operates every 20 minutes. Officials didn't provide ridership data for affected routes or estimates of how many daily commuters will experience longer travel times. PATH typically carries about 250,000 weekday riders across its four-route system connecting Manhattan with New Jersey communities.

To offset reduced frequencies on some routes, PATH added supplemental Hoboken-33rd Street trains running every 10 minutes. The enhanced HOB-33 service provides more frequent options for riders traveling that corridor. Officials said the modifications maintain overall system capacity, though they haven't released detailed service planning documents. PATH announced the changes through social media channels rather than formal press releases, and the agency didn't specify whether the adjustments relate to construction, maintenance work, or operational needs.
The service pattern changes took effect November 24 and will continue through January, according to PATH's official announcement. Officials haven't said when in January the JSQ-33 trains will stop making Exchange Place stops when traveling toward Journal Square. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates PATH, typically announces service changes several weeks in advance, though the timeline for additional details about these modifications wasn't provided.

Riders using Exchange Place or traveling on JSQ-33 trains should add extra time to their commutes to account for the additional stop. Officials said they'll release more information before the service pattern ends in January.
