NYC PATH Adapts Service Through 2026
PATH reroutes JSQ-33 trains through Hoboken with 20-minute frequencies until 2026
PATH Adjusts JSQ-33 Service Through 2026
PATH trains on the Journal Square-33rd Street line now run via Hoboken with modified service patterns affecting daily commuters, transit officials said. The changes took effect December 29, with JSQ-33 trains operating every 20 minutes and supplemental Hoboken-33rd Street service running every 10 minutes. Officials didn't provide specific ridership impact numbers or explain the reason for the modifications.
The service adjustments affect two major PATH routes connecting New Jersey with Manhattan, according to the transit agency. Newark-World Trade Center trains now operate every 20 minutes in both directions, while JSQ-33 trains travel via Hoboken on the same frequency. PATH operates approximately 13.8 miles of track with 13 stations across four routes, meaning service changes have significant impact on connectivity throughout the limited network. The system carried about 275,000 weekday riders before the pandemic, though current ridership figures weren't available.

Officials outlined the new service frequencies but didn't specify what the previous schedules were for comparison. The Newark-WTC line runs every 20 minutes, while supplemental Hoboken-33rd Street trains provide more frequent 10-minute service for riders traveling between Hoboken and Manhattan. Clarelle DeGraffe, General Manager of PATH, didn't provide a statement about the operational changes. The modifications maintain connectivity across the bi-state system operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
A significant long-term change affects Exchange Place station through January 2026. JSQ-33 trains traveling via Hoboken will stop at Exchange Place when heading toward Journal Square, officials said. This extended modification means riders should factor the altered stop pattern into their travel plans for more than a year. Officials didn't say whether the stop pattern will revert to previous service after January 2026 or if additional changes are planned.

Riders using JSQ-33 and Newark-WTC lines should pay attention to which trains stop at Exchange Place, as the pattern varies by route and direction. Officials said they'll communicate service updates through station announcements and signage, though they didn't specify how far in advance riders will receive notice of future changes. Moovit provides real-time PATH schedules and service alerts to help commuters navigate the modified routes.
