NYC Metro Upgrades Track and Station Access
MTA suspends or reroutes seven subway lines March 13-16 for track and station work
MTA Cuts Service on Multiple Lines March 13-16
New York City subway riders will face major service disruptions across multiple lines the weekend of March 13-16, 2026, as the MTA conducts track replacement and accessibility work. The changes affect routes in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, with several lines suspended or rerouted throughout the weekend. Transit officials said riders should plan for extra travel time and consider alternative routes during the maintenance period.

Track Work Drives Weekend Maintenance Blitz
The service modifications are part of ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade the aging subway infrastructure, according to the transit agency. The MTA regularly schedules major maintenance work for weekends when ridership is typically lower than weekday levels. Track replacement work in the Bronx and accessibility improvements at Long Island Rail Road stations represent critical infrastructure investments. Transit agencies typically bundle multiple projects into single weekend outages to minimize the total number of service disruptions throughout the year.

Seven Lines Face Suspensions or Reroutes
The 2 and 5 trains won't run between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse in the Bronx from Saturday morning through Sunday evening due to track replacement. The G train will be suspended between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs, with free B98 shuttle buses providing alternative service. N and W trains will operate in two sections and won't run between Queensboro Plaza and Times Sq-42 St. The F train will run on the Q line via Roosevelt Island between 36 St and 57 St-7 Av. A and C trains will run on the F line between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Jay St-MetroTech. The Rockaway Park Shuttle will be completely suspended with shuttle bus service available. Long Island Rail Road westbound trains will skip Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, and Woodside stations due to accessibility work.

Changes Run Saturday Morning Through Sunday Night
The service changes take effect Saturday morning, March 13, and continue through Sunday evening, March 16, transit officials said. The MTA will provide free shuttle buses for suspended G train service and the Rockaway Park Shuttle. Metro-North accommodations will be available for Long Island Rail Road riders affected by the station skips at Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, and Woodside. Officials said the weekend timeframe allows crews to complete essential maintenance with reduced impact on weekday commuters.

Riders Should Check Real-Time Updates Before Travel
Passengers should expect longer travel times and crowding on alternative routes throughout the weekend. The MTA said riders should check for real-time updates before traveling, as service patterns may change. Moovit provides real-time transit updates and alternative route planning for MTA subway and rail services across the New York metro area. Transit officials recommend allowing extra time for trips and considering whether travel can be rescheduled to avoid the most heavily affected routes during the maintenance period.
