MetroConnect Cuts Weekend Service, Raises Fares

Miami-Dade County's MetroConnect on-demand transit service is cutting weekend service and raising fares starting Sunday, February 1st. The service will operate Monday through Friday only, from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., eliminating all Saturday and Sunday trips. Standard fares will increase to $3.75 per trip, though riders connecting to Metrorail, Metrobus, or the South Dade TransitWay can pay a discounted $1.50 fare.

Service Zones Reduced in Restructuring

The changes represent a significant restructuring of Miami-Dade's on-demand transit network. MetroConnect will no longer serve two zones: the Civic Center and Waterford Business District. Transit officials said the modifications aim to focus resources on higher-demand areas and improve connections to the county's fixed-route transit system. Alternative transportation remains available in affected zones, including multiple Miami-Dade Transit routes, Broward County Transit routes, and City of Miami Trolleys.

New Fare Structure Encourages Transit Connections

The new $3.75 standard fare represents an increase from previous pricing, payable at booking time through the MetroConnect app. However, riders beginning or ending trips at designated transit terminals connecting to Metrorail, Metrobus, and the South Dade TransitWay will pay just $1.50. Passengers can view eligible transit hubs in the MetroConnect app during the booking process. Officials didn't specify how many transit connection points qualify for the discounted fare.

Changes Take Effect February 1st

The standardized service hours, new fares, and zone adjustments all take effect Sunday, February 1st. Officials said additional information about service changes and fares is available in the FAQ section of the MetroConnect system. The agency didn't provide details about how much advance notice riders in eliminated zones received or whether ridership data influenced the decision to cut weekend service.

Riders Should Plan Alternative Weekend Trips

Riders who previously relied on MetroConnect for weekend travel will need to use alternative transit options starting February 1st. Those in the Civic Center and Waterford Business District should identify replacement routes before the changes take effect.
