Miami-Dade Launches All-Electric Metro Express BRT
Miami-Dade's first all-electric Bus Rapid Transit system connects South Dade to Metrorail
Metro Express Launches on South Dade TransitWay
Miami-Dade County's first all-electric Bus Rapid Transit system is now running on the South Dade TransitWay, connecting riders from SW 344th Street to Dadeland South Metrorail Station. The Metro Express service features 14 modern BRT stations and 32 local bus stops along the route, transit officials said. The system operates with 60-foot electric buses equipped with charging ports, bike racks, and all-door boarding capabilities.

SMART Program Brings Modern Transit Infrastructure
Metro Express was developed as part of Miami-Dade County's SMART Program, which focuses on delivering modern and sustainable transit infrastructure. The BRT system represents a shift toward zero-emission public transportation in South Florida, where car dependency has historically dominated travel patterns. Transit officials said the service aims to provide faster, more reliable connections to job centers, schools, parks, shopping areas, and other transit services. The county's investment in all-electric buses aligns with broader regional efforts to reduce transportation emissions and improve air quality.
Stations Offer Enhanced Rider Amenities
The 14 air-conditioned BRT stations feature level boarding platforms that allow passengers to enter buses without climbing steps, making the system more accessible. Each station includes real-time arrival displays, free Wi-Fi, and secure bike storage facilities, transit officials said. The all-door boarding capability on the 60-foot buses speeds up passenger loading and reduces dwell time at stations. Officials said the combination of dedicated transitway lanes and modern station amenities is designed to make Metro Express competitive with car travel times for South Dade commuters.
County Seeks Rider Feedback on New Service
Miami-Dade County is collecting rider feedback through a survey to enhance the safety, reliability, and efficiency of Metro Express, transit officials said. The county hasn't specified how long the feedback period will run or when service adjustments based on rider input might be implemented. Maps showing the locations of all BRT stations and local bus stops are available on the county website, though officials didn't provide details about service frequency or operating hours.

Riders Can Access Route Information Through Moovit
South Dade residents can now use Metro Express to reach Dadeland South Metrorail Station and connect to the broader Miami-Dade transit network. The service provides a direct link between southern communities and major employment and retail centers along the corridor. Riders can access real-time Metro Express arrival information, trip planning, and service alerts through the Moovit app, which provides comprehensive transit navigation for Miami-Dade County's bus and rail systems.
