Miami-Dade Opens Temp Licenses for Grand Prix
Miami-Dade County's opening temporary for-hire licenses for luxury sedans and limousines during the Miami Grand Prix, officials announced. The licenses will be valid from April 24 through May 10, 2026, allowing operators from other jurisdictions to provide service during the major racing event. The county's Department of Transportation and Public Works said the temporary permits are designed to meet increased transportation demand during the Grand Prix weekend.

Program Targets Licensed Operators
The temporary license program is available to luxury sedan, stretch and super stretch limousine, and passenger motor carrier operators currently licensed by any state or political subdivision, according to the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works. Existing Miami-Dade license holders who want to expand their fleets for the event can also apply. Miami-Dade County regulates for-hire limousines countywide under Chapter 31, Article VI of the County Code, requiring all entities providing limousine service to hold a for-hire license and each vehicle to have an operating permit.
Walk-In Applications Accepted
Applications can be submitted in person Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Department of Transportation and Public Works office located at 601 NW 1st Court, 18th Floor, Miami, officials said. Walk-in applications will be accepted, and same-day decal issuance will be available for applications that meet all requirements. For questions about the temporary license application, operators can contact Pedro Orelle at 786-469-2370, Benson Thomas at 786-469-2368, or Michael Pough at 786-469-2369.

Licenses Valid Through May 10
The temporary licenses will become available starting April 24, 2026, and will remain valid through May 10, 2026, covering the full duration of the Miami Grand Prix event and surrounding activities. Officials said the timeline allows operators to secure permits before the event begins and maintain authorization throughout the racing weekend. The county didn't specify how many temporary licenses it expects to issue or what the application fee structure will be.
Riders Can Track Options
The temporary license program aims to ensure adequate for-hire transportation capacity during the Grand Prix, when visitor numbers typically surge beyond normal levels.
