Metro Transforms New Carrollton Into Regional Hub
New Carrollton station parking, bus bays, and Kiss & Ride lot closed for transit hub development
New Carrollton Station Faces Access Limits
Riders using New Carrollton station should expect parking, traffic and pedestrian access impacts as Metro transforms the facility into a multi-modal transit hub. Joint development and construction activities are affecting multiple areas of the station, transit officials said. The changes come as the agency works to create a mixed-use development with entertainment, residential, retail and commercial office space at one of the region's largest transit hubs.

Development Creates Regional Transit Hub
The transformation plan includes an urbanized town center and walkable community connected to Metro, Amtrak, MARC, Greyhound and the future Purple Line, according to the transit agency. The P2 Parking Garage reopened Monday, September 8, 2025, giving riders access to both parking garages at the station. Both garages currently provide a total parking capacity of 3,593 spaces. Officials said the development aims to create first-class accommodations at the regional transit hub.
Multiple Closures Affect Station Access
The Kiss & Ride Lot along Ellin Road closed Sunday, October 27, 2024 for approximately one year, transit officials said. Bus bays G, H, J and K also closed October 27, 2024 for about one year, with riders boarding at temporary bus stop locations. A portion of the Park & Ride Lot along Ellin Road closed to conduct bus operations beginning the week of September 9, 2024. MTA Purple Line Construction has resulted in additional parking impacts, according to the agency. Amtrak is upgrading the existing platform and building a new platform to track 1.

Traffic Delays Expected During Construction
Riders may experience delays, congestion and changes to travel patterns upon exiting due to ongoing construction within the parking garage, officials said. The P1 Garage can be accessed via Garden City and Corporate Drive with two exit points. Officials haven't specified when all construction activities will be completed or when normal access patterns will resume.
Riders Should Plan Extra Travel Time
Transit officials recommend riders allow additional time for parking and station access during the construction period. Those using bus service should locate temporary stop positions before their trip. Riders can check Moovit for real-time updates on New Carrollton station access and alternative routing options during the ongoing development work.
