Metro Expands Bike Access at 10 Stations
Metro installs smart bike lockers and repair stations at 10 stations from March 23 to April 28
Metro Adds Bike Lockers at 10 Stations
Washington Metro riders who bike to stations will get upgraded parking facilities at 10 locations starting March 23. The transit agency's installing smart lockers, repair stations, and secure racks across its system through late April, officials said. Pentagon City becomes the first station to receive the new amenities.

System-Wide Bike Infrastructure Expansion
The upgrades are part of WMATA's broader effort to encourage multimodal commuting and improve first-mile, last-mile connections to rail service. Transit agencies nationwide have expanded bike facilities in recent years as ridership patterns shift toward combined transit and cycling trips. The installations include smart lockers accessible via mobile app, U-shaped racks for standard bike locks, and self-service repair stations with basic tools. Officials said the improvements address growing demand for secure bike storage at Metro stations.
Ten Stations Getting New Facilities
The rollout affects stations across multiple lines and jurisdictions. After Pentagon City on March 23 and Braddock Road on March 25, installations continue at Foggy Bottom (March 27), Eastern Market (March 30), Fort Totten (April 1), College Park (April 7), East Falls Church (April 9), Minnesota Avenue (April 14), Largo Town Center (April 20), and Rockville (April 28). During installation periods, existing bike lockers and racks may be temporarily unavailable at affected stations. Customers are advised to remove all personal property from existing lockers and racks by the posted dates at each station.
Tentative Schedule Through April
All installation dates are tentative and subject to change, officials said. The agency plans to provide updates throughout the installation period if schedules shift. Once installation's complete at each station, the new bike parking facilities will be immediately available for use. Instructions for using the new smart locker system will be provided via an app, with details available on locker decals at each location.

What Riders Need to Know
Cyclists should plan for potential disruptions to existing bike parking during installation windows at their regular stations. The agency recommends checking station-specific timelines before arrival and removing personal items from old lockers ahead of posted deadlines. Moovit provides real-time service information and station amenity details for Metro riders planning trips that combine rail and bike travel.
