Metro Adjusts Bus Stops for Station Upgrade
WMATA closes D10 and D1X bus stop at Pennsylvania Ave SE and 14th Street for two years
DC Metro Closes Bus Stop on Pennsylvania Ave SE
Riders who catch the D10 or D1X bus at Pennsylvania Avenue SE and 14th Street will need to find a new stop starting March 9. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the westbound bus stop at that location will close permanently due to the Potomac Avenue Station project. Passengers must use an alternative stop at Pennsylvania Avenue SE and Potomac Avenue instead.

Station Project Drives Infrastructure Changes
The closure is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements tied to the Potomac Avenue Station project, WMATA officials said. Transit agencies routinely adjust bus stop locations during major construction projects to accommodate work zones and ensure passenger safety. The changes affect service along a key corridor in Southeast Washington that connects residential neighborhoods to Metro rail stations. WMATA said the modifications are necessary to complete the station improvements while maintaining bus service in the area.
Two Routes Affected by Stop Elimination
Both the D10 and D1X routes will bypass the closed stop at Pennsylvania Avenue SE and 14th Street. Riders previously using stop #1002965 at that location should instead board at the alternative stop on Pennsylvania Avenue SE at Potomac Avenue, which carries the same stop ID number. The closure takes effect March 9, 2026, and will remain in place through March 9, 2028. WMATA didn't specify whether the stop closure might extend beyond that date or become permanent after the project concludes.

Two-Year Timeline for Stop Closure
The bus stop will remain closed for two years, from March 9, 2026, through March 9, 2028, according to WMATA. The agency announced the closure immediately upon issuing the advisory. Officials apologized for any inconvenience to riders and encouraged passengers to sign up for MetroAlerts to receive service updates.
Riders Should Plan for Longer Walks
Passengers who regularly used the closed stop should allow extra time for walking to the alternative location at Pennsylvania Avenue and Potomac Avenue. The change may add several minutes to some riders' commutes depending on their origin or destination. WMATA said riders should plan their trips accordingly during the two-year closure period.
