MARC Train Offers Free Rides for Earth Day
Maryland commuters can ride MARC Train and all other Maryland Transit Administration services free on Earth Day, April 22nd. Transit officials said the promotion covers all three MARC lines—Camden, Penn, and Brunswick—plus Local Bus, Light Rail, Baltimore Metro Subway, Commuter Bus, and MobilityLink services. The agency announced the initiative Monday to encourage both regular riders and newcomers to try public transit.

Earth Day Transit Promotion Background
The Maryland Transit Administration is celebrating Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, with the systemwide fare waiver. Transit officials said the promotion aims to highlight public transportation's environmental benefits while giving new riders a chance to experience the system. The initiative covers the agency's entire service area across Maryland, including commuter rail, local and express bus routes, light rail, and subway services. Officials said both regular commuters and first-time riders can take advantage of complimentary travel throughout the day.
All MTA Services Participating
All three MARC Train lines are participating in the Earth Day initiative, transit officials confirmed. The Camden Line connects Baltimore's Camden Yards area with Washington, while the Penn Line runs between Baltimore's Penn Station and Washington. The Brunswick Line serves western Maryland communities to Washington. The promotion also includes the Baltimore Metro Subway, Light Rail system, MobilityLink paratransit service, and the agency's full network of local and commuter bus routes. Officials said riders won't need special tickets or passes—all services will simply be free for the day.
Service Alert Active Through Tuesday
The service alert for the Earth Day promotion is active from April 20, 2026, at 10:23 AM through April 22, 2026, at 10:21 PM, according to transit officials. The free rides apply throughout the day on Wednesday, April 22nd. Officials said riders should plan trips as they normally would, with all regular schedules in effect. The Transit Information Contact Center is available Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM at 410.539.5000 or toll-free at 1.866.RIDE MTA for questions about the promotion.
