Metro Atlanta commuters can now book shared van rides through MARTA's new on-demand service across 12 zones. MARTA Reach launched as the agency's first step toward its NextGen Bus Network overhaul, transit officials said. The service operates 18 hours daily, with vans arriving within 30 minutes of booking through a mobile app, website, or phone call.

MARTA Reach was introduced ahead of the agency's NextGen Bus Network overhaul, which is scheduled to launch April 18, 2026. The new service is designed to replace traditional bus routes in areas with lower and more dispersed ridership, according to the transit agency. Ryan VanSickle, MARTA's Director of Technical Services and Service Planning, said officials want customers to download the app and familiarize themselves with the service before other bus routes are modified. The agency is giving residents time to adjust to the on-demand model before implementing broader network changes.

The service operates in 12 designated zones across the metropolitan area, with passengers requesting rides within specific geographic boundaries. Vans arrive within 30 minutes or less of booking, officials said. The service runs 18 hours a day, seven days a week, providing flexible transportation options for residents. Passengers can book rides through multiple channels including a mobile app, the MARTA website, or by phone.

Commuters can test MARTA Reach for free until March 28, 2026, transit officials said. After the promotional period ends, the fare will be $2.50, matching the cost of standard bus or rail trips. The fare includes four free transfers within a three-hour window, allowing riders to connect with other MARTA services.

The launch gives metro Atlanta residents more than a year to adapt to on-demand transit before the NextGen Bus Network takes effect in April 2026. VanSickle emphasized that the early introduction allows customers to become comfortable with the booking process and service model. Riders can check Moovit for real-time updates on MARTA Reach availability and connections to other transit options across the metro Atlanta system.
