M60 Bus Stop Shifts for Construction Work
M60 bus stop at New Hampshire Ave and Merwood Dr closes March 16-July 16 for construction
M60 Bus Stop Closes for Four Months
Riders who use the M60 bus route at New Hampshire Ave and Merwood Dr will need to walk to a different stop starting next week. WMATA announced the northbound stop at that location—stop ID #2000095—will be closed for construction from March 16 through July 16, 2026. The four-month closure affects one of the route's regular pickup points in the area.

Construction Forces Temporary Relocation
The closure stems from construction work at the New Hampshire Ave and Merwood Dr intersection, transit officials said. WMATA didn't specify what type of construction is taking place or whether it's related to roadwork, utility improvements, or other infrastructure projects. Bus stop closures due to construction typically last several weeks to several months depending on the scope of work. The agency said the closure is necessary to ensure passenger safety during the construction period.
Alternative Stop One Block Away
Passengers will use the stop at New Hampshire Ave and Kingwood Dr as an alternative during the closure, WMATA confirmed. The replacement stop is located nearby on the same route, allowing riders to continue accessing M60 service. Officials said passengers can board and exit buses at the temporary location throughout the four-month period. The agency didn't provide details about whether the alternative stop will have additional signage or whether service frequency will change during the closure.
Closure Runs March Through July
The stop closure takes effect Monday, March 16, 2026, and continues through Thursday, July 16, 2026, according to WMATA. The agency recommends riders sign up for MetroAlerts to receive updates about the closure and any potential changes to the timeline. Officials said passengers should plan trips accordingly and allow extra travel time to reach the alternative stop location.

Riders Should Plan for Extra Walk
M60 passengers who regularly use the Merwood Dr stop will need to adjust their routines for the next four months, walking to the Kingwood Dr location instead. WMATA apologized for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure. Riders can stay informed about the closure and other service changes through Moovit, which provides real-time transit updates and alternative route planning for WMATA bus services throughout the Washington metro area.
