LA's New Transit Hub Connects Rail to LAX
LAX Metro Transit Center connects C Line rail and bus routes to airport area
LAX Metro Transit Center Adds Bus, Rail Links
Los Angeles travelers can now connect to LAX through an enhanced transit hub linking bus and rail service. Metro released a comprehensive guide June 22 explaining how to use the LAX/Metro Transit Center, which serves as a connection point between the C Line and multiple bus routes. The facility provides access to one of the world's busiest airports, which handles 75 million passengers annually, though officials didn't specify how many daily riders the transit center expects to serve.

The transit center opened on the C Line in June 2023, providing the first direct rail connection to the LAX area after decades of planning. Metro's Green Line originally opened in 1995 but didn't extend to the airport vicinity until the recent expansion. The facility will become even more critical when the LAX Automated People Mover system completes in 2025, creating a direct link between the transit center and airport terminals. Construction costs for the transit center weren't disclosed in available Metro documents.
Multiple bus routes serve the transit center, connecting passengers throughout the region, though Metro didn't specify the exact number of routes. The C Line provides rail connections to destinations across Los Angeles County. Metro's guide explains navigation between platforms, transfer procedures, and how to plan trips using the facility. Officials said clear signage helps passengers move between bus and rail services. The center includes platforms designed to streamline transfers and reduce wait times for airport-bound travelers.

The enhanced connections follow similar airport rail projects in other major cities. Chicago's Blue Line has connected to O'Hare Airport since 1984, while San Francisco's BART extended to SFO in 2003. Washington's Metro Silver Line reached Dulles Airport in 2022. California's climate policies encourage transit alternatives to reduce vehicle emissions, particularly for airport access. Metro hasn't released specific ridership projections for how many passengers will use the LAX transit center.
Airport employees, travelers, and residents throughout Los Angeles can use the transit center to reach LAX without driving. The facility offers a cost-effective alternative to ride-hailing services and parking fees. Metro said the connections aim to make public transportation more attractive for airport access. Passengers can find real-time schedule information and trip planning tools through Moovit, which provides updates for Metro C Line routes and connecting bus services throughout the Los Angeles area.
