LA Metro Adds Frequency on Multiple Bus Routes

Los Angeles County bus riders will see more frequent service on several routes starting Sunday, December 15, transit officials said. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will implement schedule changes affecting routes across the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, and central Los Angeles areas. The modifications are part of Metro's NextGen Bus Plan, which aims to improve frequency and reliability based on ridership patterns.

The service changes reflect Metro's ongoing effort to align bus schedules with current travel patterns and rider needs, according to the transit agency. Officials said the adjustments will improve connections between bus and rail services while increasing frequency on several key corridors. The changes come as Metro continues implementing its NextGen Bus Plan, a comprehensive redesign of the county's bus network launched in recent years. Transit agencies typically review service levels regularly and adjust routes based on ridership data, operational capacity, and budget considerations.
Line 96 will be renumbered to Line 296 and will terminate at Lincoln/Cypress A Line Station instead of Chinatown, improving rail connections. In the San Gabriel Valley, Lines 177 and 256 will transfer to Pasadena Transit, becoming Routes 53 and 33 respectively. Route 33 will see frequency improve from every 50 minutes to every 35 minutes. Line 260 will split into two routes: Route 260 operating from Pasadena to Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station every 24 minutes, and Route 261 from Pasadena to Artesia Station every 24 minutes. Line 665 weekday frequency will improve from every 50 minutes to approximately every 35 minutes, better serving Cal State LA students.

The changes take effect Sunday, December 15, officials confirmed. Construction for the new East San Fernando Valley light rail line will begin in December along Van Nuys Boulevard between Sherman Way and Arminta Street. Starting January 2025 through Summer 2026, the G Line will be detoured via Sepulveda Boulevard and Oxnard Street due to construction of an elevated Van Nuys G Line station. Lines 2, 10, 20, and 28 will adjust schedules to accommodate area schools' new schedules for students in Metro's GoPass program.
Riders can expect improved frequency and reliability on affected routes, though officials said some routes will see changes to their endpoints and numbering. Students using Metro's GoPass program will benefit from schedule adjustments aligned with school hours. Passengers should review new schedules before the December 15 implementation date.
