Hong Kong Adds Transit for Labour Day Holiday

Hong Kong's adding extra trains and buses for the Mainland Labour Day Golden Week as border crossings brace for heavy crowds. The Transport Department coordinated enhanced services across MTR rail lines and cross-boundary routes from April 30 through early May, officials announced. Increased passenger flows are expected at border control points throughout the holiday period.
The service enhancements target the annual Labour Day Golden Week, one of mainland China's busiest travel periods when millions of residents take extended holidays. Hong Kong's border crossings typically see significant increases in both inbound and outbound travelers during the week-long holiday. The Transport Department worked with local and cross-boundary operators to coordinate the expanded capacity. Officials said the goal is ensuring smooth travel despite the anticipated surge in passenger volumes.

The MTR Corporation will strengthen East Rail Line services between Admiralty and Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau stations at various times from April 30 to May 5. The Express Rail Link will add 13 extra daily train pairs between West Kowloon and Futian stations from April 30 to May 3. Additional high-speed rail services will operate on May 4 and 5, including routes to Futian and Shenzhen North. Temporary sleeper train services between West Kowloon and Beijing West will run on April 30 and from May 5 to 7.
Cross-boundary bus services will increase frequency during the holiday period. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge shuttle may run once per minute during peak periods, while the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang shuttle bus could operate at approximately two-minute intervals at peak times. Local franchised bus routes connecting to land boundary control points will run more frequently than typical weekends. The Emergency Transport Coordination Centre will monitor traffic conditions around the clock and implement contingency measures as needed.

Riders traveling to or from mainland China during the holiday period should expect crowded conditions at border stations and allow extra travel time. Officials didn't specify exact service frequencies for all enhanced routes. The Transport Department said operators will adjust capacity based on real-time demand throughout the week.
