Fairfax Connector Adjusts Routes to Match Demand
Fairfax Connector proposes eliminating Routes 552 and 622 in June due to low ridership
Fairfax Connector Cuts 2 Routes in June Plan
Fairfax Connector's proposing to eliminate two bus routes and reduce service on several others as part of system-wide changes set for June 27, transit officials said. Routes 552 and 622 would be discontinued due to consistently low ridership, though riders will have access to alternative Connector services. The agency's seeking public feedback on the proposed modifications through March 1.

Changes Aim to Match Service With Demand
The proposed updates aim to better align service levels with ridership demand, improve reliability, and increase overall system efficiency, according to the transit agency. Multiple routes will experience modifications including midday service adjustments, schedule changes, and service reductions. Several routes will see reduced service hours, with some eliminating weekend or Sunday service entirely. Transit agencies typically review service levels based on ridership data and adjust routes to deploy resources where they're most needed while managing operational costs.
Route 983 Gets More Weekend Service
While most changes involve service reductions, Route 983 will receive increased weekend frequency as part of the modifications, officials said. The agency didn't specify how many additional trips would be added to Route 983 or which other specific routes beyond 552 and 622 would see reductions. Officials said the changes reflect ridership patterns observed across the system. The proposed modifications include adjustments to midday service on multiple routes, though detailed schedules for affected routes weren't available by publication time.

Public Meetings Set for February 24
Two virtual public meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. to present the proposed changes and gather community feedback. Both meetings will be held via Microsoft Teams and will be recorded and posted online. Public comments can be submitted online through March 1. The changes would take effect June 27 if approved following the public input period.
Riders Can Access Alternative Routes
Riders currently using Routes 552 and 622 will have access to alternative Connector services once the changes take effect, officials said. The agency encouraged community members to attend one of the virtual meetings to learn more about how the modifications might affect their commutes and to share input on the proposals.
