Euston Station Faces May Service Cuts for Works

Rail passengers using London Euston station should expect service disruptions throughout May 2026 as Network Rail carries out essential engineering works. Trains will continue running on affected weekends, but reduced timetables will be in place, officials confirmed. The works involve more than £11 million in infrastructure improvements across multiple locations on the network.

Major Infrastructure Investment Planned

The engineering program includes significant track and equipment upgrades at several key locations. Network Rail is investing more than £8 million at Willesden Junction and £1 million at Harlesden to install five new sets of switches and crossings. At Primrose Hill, almost £1.5 million is being spent on track renewals, while over £1 million is being allocated to drainage improvements near Milton Keynes to reduce flooding risk. These improvements are designed to enhance reliability and reduce future service disruptions.

Three Weekend Disruption Periods Scheduled

The first major disruption will occur during the early May bank holiday from Saturday 2 to Monday 4 May, when major track renewal work will be carried out in the Willesden South and Primrose Hill areas. There'll be no London Overground services between Euston and Kilburn High Road during this period. Further disruption is expected on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May due to HS2-related construction work. A final round of work is scheduled for Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May.

Reduced Timetables Throughout Month

Network Rail confirmed that while trains will continue to operate throughout the affected weekends, passengers should expect reduced service frequency. Officials haven't released specific details about how many trains will be cut from normal schedules or which specific routes beyond London Overground will see the most significant reductions. The agency said it's working to minimize disruption while completing necessary infrastructure upgrades.

Passengers Urged to Plan Ahead

Travelers using Euston station during May should check schedules before traveling and allow extra time for journeys, officials advised. The service changes will affect both commuters and leisure travelers throughout the month, particularly during the three weekend work periods.
