El Paso Schools Expand Access for At-Risk Students
El Paso ISD redistributes CCTA program to four high schools due to low enrollment
El Paso ISD Closes CCTA Campus, Moves to 4 Schools
El Paso students enrolled in the College Career and Technology Academy will attend classes at four high schools starting in the 2026-2027 school year, district officials said. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously 7-0 on Tuesday to close the standalone CCTA campus at 2851 Grant Ave by the end of July 2026. The program serves 98 at-risk and under-credited students in a facility built for over 500, officials said.

Program Redesign Aims to Improve Student Access
The CCTA program won't be eliminated but will be distributed among Burges, Chapin, Franklin, and El Paso High Schools, according to district officials. The redesign allows students to attend school closer to home rather than traveling to the central campus, officials said. Students will gain access to graduation coaches, social workers, and Emergence Health Network support services available at comprehensive high schools. The standalone campus model has served at-risk students for years, but district officials said the distributed model better serves current enrollment patterns and student needs.
Low Enrollment Drives Campus Closure Decision
Current CCTA enrollment stands at just 98 students in a facility with capacity for more than 500, district data shows. The Board of Trustees approved the program redesign during Tuesday's meeting, with all seven members voting in favor of the change. District officials said the four host high schools will each accommodate a portion of CCTA students, though specific enrollment targets for each campus weren't provided. The Head Start program currently operating at the Grant Avenue location will remain at that site after the CCTA closure, officials confirmed.

Transition Planning Begins Next Week
District officials will begin transition planning for affected students next week, with the process continuing through May 2026. The current CCTA campus will close by the end of July 2026, giving students and families several months to prepare for the change. Officials said they'll work with each student to ensure a smooth transition to their assigned host high school, though specific details about the transition process weren't available.
Students Will Access Services at Host Schools
The 98 students currently enrolled at CCTA will transition to one of four host high schools for the 2026-2027 school year, where they'll have access to comprehensive support services. District officials said the change ensures at-risk students receive the same resources available to all high school students while maintaining the specialized CCTA program structure.
