CTA J14 Bus Extends Weekday Evening Service
Chicago's J14 Jeffery Jump bus will run 15 minutes later on weekday evenings starting March 30, giving South Side riders more options for late-night trips downtown. The Chicago Transit Authority said the extended service addresses demand for later evening travel between the 103rd/Stony Island area and downtown Chicago. Officials haven't said when the extended hours will end, listing the change as ongoing for now.

Service Extension Adds Quarter-Hour to Route
The J14 Jeffery Jump operates as an express route connecting South Side neighborhoods to downtown Chicago during peak periods. Transit officials said the modification extends weekday evening service to better serve riders commuting home from downtown jobs and activities. The route currently serves major stops including 67th Jeffery, 79th Jeffery, and 103rd/Stony Island on the South Side, with downtown stops at Balbo/Michigan, State/Washington, and Ogilvie Transportation Center. Officials didn't provide ridership figures for the route or specify how many riders the extended service is expected to accommodate.
New Departure Times Take Effect
Under the new schedule, the last downtown-bound trip will depart 103rd/Stony Island at 10:30pm, 79th Jeffery at 10:40pm, and 67th Jeffery at 10:45pm on weekdays. The final South Side-bound trip will leave Ogilvie Transportation Center at 11:30pm, State/Washington at 11:35pm, and Balbo/Michigan at 11:40pm. These times represent approximately 15 minutes later than current last-trip departures, the CTA said. Officials described the change as a service improvement but didn't specify whether additional buses or drivers will be needed to support the extended hours.

Change Begins Late March
The extended evening service takes effect Monday, March 30, transit officials said. The CTA hasn't announced an end date for the service modification, indicating the later hours may become permanent. Officials said they'll monitor ridership on the extended trips but didn't provide specific metrics they'll use to evaluate the change's success.
Riders Should Note Schedule Shift
Passengers who rely on the J14 during weekday evenings should adjust their travel plans to account for the new departure times. The 15-minute extension gives riders more flexibility for late shifts, evening activities, or connections to other transit lines.
