CTA Blue Line Maintains Service During Track Work
CTA Blue Line to use single-track operation at four downtown stations overnight May 4-5
CTA Blue Line Alters Boarding for Track Work
Chicago's Blue Line will require riders to board from one side of the platform at four downtown stations during overnight maintenance Monday into Tuesday. The Chicago Transit Authority said trains in both directions will share a single track between LaSalle and Grand stations from 10 p.m. May 4 to 4 a.m. May 5, 2026. Passengers should expect minor delays and allow extra travel time during the six-hour work window.

Safety Maintenance Drives Service Change
The maintenance work is being performed to ensure trains continue to operate safely along the Blue Line, according to the transit agency. CTA typically conducts overnight track work to minimize disruption to weekday commuters while addressing infrastructure needs. The agency said the planned work will also affect Train Tracker estimations during the specified time period, meaning real-time arrival predictions may be less accurate than usual.
Four Stations See Platform Changes
Passengers must board and exit all trains on the Forest Park-bound side of the platform at Jackson, Monroe, Washington, and Clark/Lake stations during the maintenance period. The single-tracking arrangement means O'Hare-bound and Forest Park-bound trains will alternate using the same track segment, requiring all boarding to occur from one platform side. Officials said the configuration allows crews to safely perform maintenance on the adjacent track while maintaining service in both directions.
Six-Hour Window Set for Overnight Work
The service change takes effect at 10 p.m. Monday, May 4, and continues until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The overnight timing targets the period of lowest ridership on the Blue Line, which operates 24 hours daily. Normal boarding procedures and full service will resume when the maintenance window closes at 4 a.m. Tuesday, the agency confirmed.

Riders Advised to Plan for Delays
Blue Line passengers traveling through downtown Chicago during the late-night hours should allow extra time for their trips due to the single-tracking operation. The CTA said most other rail lines are operating normally, with the Purple Line and Yellow Line offering added service. Moovit provides real-time updates for CTA routes, helping riders navigate service changes and plan alternative routes when maintenance affects their usual travel patterns.
