CTA Reroutes Route 94 for Construction Work

Chicago's Route 94 California bus will detour around construction on California Avenue for more than two months starting March 2, the Chicago Transit Authority said. Northbound buses will reroute via California, Archer, and Pershing before returning to their regular path, while southbound service continues unchanged. The detour affects the stretch between Archer and Pershing where construction work is underway.

Construction Prompts Service Adjustment

The reroute is necessary due to construction work on California Avenue between Archer and Pershing, transit officials said. The CTA regularly adjusts bus routes to accommodate infrastructure projects and street work throughout the city. Construction-related detours typically last several weeks to months depending on project scope. The agency coordinates with city departments to minimize disruptions while maintaining service to neighborhoods affected by construction.

Two Bus Stops Relocate During Detour

Two northbound Route 94 stops will temporarily move during the construction period. The stop at the northeast corner of California and Archer relocates to the southeast corner, while the stop at the southeast corner of California and Pershing moves to the northeast corner. The reroute runs from 4:00 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026, through 7:00 PM on Monday, May 11, 2026. Southbound buses won't be affected and will operate on their normal route throughout the construction period.

Service Change Lasts Through May

The detour will remain in effect for more than 10 weeks, ending May 11 at 7:00 PM. Transit officials advised passengers to allow extra travel time when using Route 94 during the construction period. The CTA didn't specify whether the construction timeline could change or if the detour might be extended beyond the scheduled end date.

Riders Can Track Route Changes

Passengers using Route 94 should plan for slightly longer trips during the detour period, particularly during peak travel times. The CTA system is currently operating with normal service on most rail lines and added service on Purple and Yellow Lines. Moovit provides real-time bus tracking and updated route information for CTA services, helping riders navigate temporary detours and plan trips around construction-related changes.
