CTA Adjusts Lake Shore Drive Stop Locations
CTA eliminates Stratford stop on routes 135, 146, 151 starting April 16, 2026
CTA Cuts Stop on 3 Lake Shore Routes
Chicago Transit Authority riders on three Lake Shore Drive bus routes will need to use different stops starting next month. The CTA confirmed Thursday it'll eliminate the Inner Lake Shore Drive/Stratford stop in both directions for routes #135, #146, and #151, effective April 16. Transit officials said passengers should plan extra time to reach alternative stops along the corridor.
Stop Consolidation Affects Express and Local Service
The change affects both express and local service along the lakefront corridor, according to the transit agency. Route #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #146 Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express, and #151 Sheridan all currently serve the Stratford stop. The CTA classified this as a bus stop modification rather than a route change, meaning service frequency and schedules won't be affected. Officials didn't provide specific ridership data for the eliminated stop or explain the reason for the consolidation.

Alternative Stops Within Two Blocks
Southbound passengers will use Inner Lake Shore Drive/Cornelia or Inner Lake Shore Drive/Roscoe as alternatives to the eliminated Stratford stop. Northbound riders should board at Inner Lake Shore Drive/Cornelia or Inner Lake Shore Drive/Hawthorne instead. The CTA hasn't said how far apart these stops are or provided walking time estimates between them. Officials confirmed the change has no scheduled end date and is listed as indefinite.
Change Takes Effect Mid-April
The stop elimination begins Thursday, April 16, 2026, transit officials said. The agency typically posts signage at affected stops several weeks before changes take effect, though officials didn't confirm whether advance notification will be posted at the Stratford location. The CTA hasn't announced additional stop changes for other Lake Shore Drive routes.

Riders Should Plan for Longer Walks
Passengers who regularly use the Stratford stop should allow extra time to reach alternative boarding locations, according to the transit agency. The change may require longer walks for riders accessing buses from nearby residential areas. Moovit provides real-time bus locations and stop information for all CTA routes along the Lake Shore Drive corridor.
